Recently we heard a sermon on being in the Spirit. Generally it was a good sermon. However, I believe that the point of the sermon was missed by many because of the hype that was generated by the speaker. The sermon itself and its contents was directed to the speaker. Most often when a sermon is preached it is just as much for the speaker as it is fior those who are hearing the sermon. The point of the sermon was that if we are in the spirit we can reach the other side. Now in the course of the sermon the speaker pointed out that if we are in the spirit then those things that we desire can come to pass. Now to a certain extent this is true. But this premise depends on whether or not we are obedient to the will of the Father. Who is our Father. Our Father is Yahveh, God. The creator of heaven and earth and all creation itself. In the beginning Yahveh gave Adam and Eve just one command that they should not eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam and Eve were happy and enjoyed intense intimacy with Yahveh God. But in comes the devil and throws temptation at Eve and Eve gave in to the desire to eat this forbidden fruit. Then to make matters worse she offered the fruit to Adam and He also gave in to the temptation. Now some people said it was the womans fault that this sin was committed but Adam could have refused the fruit. Instead He followed his wife and ate of the fruit. This one act in the history of mankind opened up a pandoras box of troubles for mankind that are still here today. Up until the time of the transgression Adam and Eve walked in the presence of the Lord God, Yahveh. Yahveh came and walked in the Garden with them every evening. They were happy and without any worries or troble. There was no pain or even sickness. It was total bliss walking in the Spirit of the Lord. This all ended with their transgression in the garden. Today walking in the Spirit or being in the Spirit takes a lot of work. It just dosen't happen when we go to church or hear what we think is a great sermon. It dosen't take place because the church has an enormous building or has a well know pastor. Being in the Spirit most often takes place in the privacy of your own home. It takes place when you allow yourself the time to be in the word and pray. When we talk about being in the word I don't just mean taking a few minutes to read the word but you must take what you read, understand it, prayer over it and ask God to give you revelation knowledge as to the meaning of the word and then allow that meaning and the word to penetrate deep into your own spirit so that you can go out and live that revelation in your everyday life. Now to some this seems like an easy task. But take a few minutes to look at yourslef and ask yourself if you are walking in the spirit everyday of your lives. Now I am sure that there are some out there who will say that they are. But I submit that these persons are deceiving themselves. Even the most saintly of people have trouble with the the temptations abounding in society. Don't be deceived it is very difficult to remain in the Spirit at all times. There are those who think that we must disassociate ourselves from the world to be able to walk in the Spirit. To some extent this is true. Jesus asked His Father to watch over His disciples and keep them in His will. But Jesus also did not want them taken out of the world but to be able to walk in the Spirit while they are still in the world. This was to give glory to the Father. It woukd show the world that they could still be in the world and that they could obey the will of the father and let ther light shine before men. This is part of what it means to be in the Spirit. Often times it is not what we say that influences people but what we don't say. Our actions speak volumes. If we are holy, holy on Sunday and then live the rest fo the week without any thought or concern for the things of God, are people going to think much of our Holy attitude on Sundays. I don't think so. WE need to get it staight people. unless we live everyday like it was our last day here on earth and we were going to meet our maker tomorrow then Maybe we could begin to come to a realization of what walikg or being in the Spirit means. But most of us tell ourselves that we have time. We don't need to study the word or pray or fast, we have time. The thing is that only the Father knows the day or time. Yes, if we are in the Spirit God will take care of us. He did not promise us gold or silver but He did promise us eternal life with him if we are obedient to His word. There is still more that can be said here but think about what it means to be in the Spirit. I am not going to tell you how I feel when I feel myself in the Spirit. You need to stydy and find out for yourself what it means to be in the Spirit.
